Putting the "O" in Occlusion
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Los Angeles, CA- PAC-live announced the appointment of Dr. Gary
Alex as the new director of the Ultimate Occlusion program for
its continuum. After a long arduous nationwide search, Dr. Alex
was among two final candidates selected to lead the hands-on
occlusion program taught at PAC-live. Dr. Alex accepted the
appointment along with his teaching partner Dr. Steve Lamberg.
A graduate of Tufts University School of Dentistry, Dr. Alex
has researched and lectured internationally on adhesive and
cosmetic dentistry, dental materials, comprehensive dentistry,
and occlusion. He's an accredited member of the AACD and past
president of the AACD New York Chapter. With a background in
chemistry and adhesive technology he is a consultant for numerous
dental manufacturers and member of the IADR (International Association
of Dental Research). Dr. Alex has studied occlusion extensively
with Dr. Peter Dawson (Center for Advanced Dental Study) and
with several other word-renowned experts in occlusion. He's
involved with a number of continuing education programs and
regularly conducts hands-on programs in adhesion, materials,
and occlusion. Dr. Alex maintains a fee for service practice
geared toward comprehensive prosthetic and cosmetic dentistry
in Huntington, New York.
"Having Gary join our team really catapults the program
into a new level. He's definitely among an elite group of clinicians
when it comes to the study and practical application of occlusion,"
says Dr. Edward Lowe, Clinical Director of the PAC-live program.
"In addition to having someone of his caliber join our
team, Gary is an excellent lecturer and most importantly someone
who shares the same passion for teaching a mastery of aesthetic
dentistry like all of the PAC-live instructors."
"When PAC-live first approached me with this opportunity,
I wanted to ensure that my occlusal philosophy would fit within
the general aesthetic philosophies taught by Ed Lowe and his
group," says Dr. Alex. "After discussing this with
the leadership team at the program, it was apparent that there
was a true synergy between the practical occlusion that I teach
and what is taught at PAC-live. I am honored to join this impressive
group of clinicians and look forward to teaching with them.
Our next Ultimate Occlusion program in San Francisco is scheduled
for December 13-15. While the program will have several objectives,
a primary goal will be to present a comprehensible, logical,
and practical approach to occlusion. That means teaching you
something that you will actually use in your practice. I have
taken many esoteric occlusion courses that, while interesting,
have been of little practical value. We will be teaching techniques
that make sense and that you will actually use".
Dr. Alex's Ultimate Occlusion Course will be a true hands-on
approach to occlusion. The program will address fundamental
occlusion concepts and principals. Find answers to many of the
questions that aesthetic dentists ask. What's the difference
between centric relation (CO), centric occlusion (CO), and maximum
intercuspation (MIP)? How do you find and record centric relation?
When is it acceptable to use MIP as opposed to CR? How important
is anterior guidance? Where do you start in a full mouth rehabilitation?
This course will give you the rational and methodology for tackling
difficult restorative and prosthetic cases.
Topics to be addressed include:
CR, CO, MIP, and NMR
Finding and confirming CR
Anterior Guidance
Total Dentistry for Total Success
Comprehensive Exams
Anatomy and Diagnosis of TMJ
Introduction to Occlusal Science
Facebow Transfers
CR Bite Records
Aesthetics and Function
Hands-on Alginate Impression Techniques
Pouring and trimming models
Demonstration of Joint, Muscle and ROM exam
Mounting casts
Centri-Check to confirm CR
Introduction to instrumentation
Introduction to Equilibration
PAC-live was created by Dr. William Dorfman, co-founder of Discus
Dental, in conjunction with Dr. David Hornbrook, Dr. Brian McKay,
Dr. Derric Des Marteau, Dr. Michael Koczarski Dr. Rod Gore,
Dr. Joe Harris, Dr. Rich Cordano, and Dr. Jim Hastings in 1998
while on retreat in Arrowhead California. Since then the group
has built a nationwide alumni network of dentists all sharing
a common trait, a mastery of functional aesthetic dentistry.
PAC-live offers a comprehensive continuum for the entire dental
team which includes a hygiene program and a series of team courses.
It's a transformational program that promotes excellence in
aesthetics, strength in function, and teaches how to transition
from needs based dentistry, to wants based dentistry. For more
